Forest Cabin

A modest contemporary cabin located on a lakeside ravine in Muskoka, Ontario. While it is only steps away from the main cottage, this cabin provides a calm sanctuary for a young family, extending a multi-generational cottage. The program consists of simple sleeping and bathing spaces, with the lofted design maximizing space within the allowable building height for kids sleeping space. The cabin is also equipped with a wood burning fireplace for cold autumn nights.

With budget in mind, the design is conceived as a simple form with modest materials. Large windows are incorporated to open up dramatic views and animate the small interior space. The openings are oriented to maximize views both to the adjacent ravine, forest, as well as to views of the lake from the deck.
